How to Measure an Angle on a Photo

A quick workflow for camera photos, screenshots, and diagrams: align first, then measure with snap and guides.

1
Add the image
2
Align the background
3
Place the protractor center

When this helps

Use this when you have a photo or screenshot and want a clean angle reading you can share or export. If the photo is tilted or blurry, take 30 seconds to align it first.

Step-by-step

  1. 1
    Add the image
Upload, drag & drop, or paste your photo/diagram to the canvas.
  2. 2
    Align the background
Rotate/flip, adjust brightness/contrast, and use the grid to line up a clear edge or axis.
  3. 3
    Place the protractor center
Move the center to the vertex (the corner point where the two sides meet).
  4. 4
    Use snap and guides
Turn on snap (common or step) to land on clean angles. Use guides if you need a stable baseline direction.
  5. 5
    Export what you need
Save a PNG/PDF for sharing, or export measurement data for spreadsheets.

Common mistakes

  • Measuring before aligning: a tilted photo is the #1 source of “wrong” readings.
  • Using 180° mode for a reflex angle: switch to 360° when the angle is over 180°.
  • Placing the center slightly off the vertex: zoom in and re-check the exact corner.
